What Smart Phones are Prone to Data Leakage?

Why Is Data Leakage So Dangerous?

Data leakage is when private information is released to an untrusted environment. Sometimes, this happens on purpose. Other times, not so much. Whatever the case, data leakage on a smartphone is a huge problem because most people use their personal devices for a wide range of sensitive matters, meaning that it can enable other people to gain unauthorized access to their bank accounts and more as well as wreak all sorts of other havoc.

What Smart Phones Are Prone to Data Leakage?

Some people might wonder what smartphones are prone to data leakage, which isn’t wholly unreasonable. For instance, it wasn’t that long ago when a number of U.S. law enforcement stated that they wouldn’t recommend U.S. residents to buy either Huawei or ZTE phones, which seems to be based on a concern that they can be used to steal private information because of those two companies’ ties to the Chinese government. However, there isn’t much public proof that Huawei and ZTE phones have been used to spy on their users, though the information that is available to the authorities but not the public might say something else entirely.

Regardless, what is important is that while some phones are riskier than others, there is no such thing as a phone that is immune to data leakage. As a result, while it makes sense to scrutinize different phones based on their potential for data leakage when they are out shopping, interested individuals need to take more steps to protect themselves. After all, apps are actually one of the leading causes of data leakage, not least because it can be such a challenge to keep track of what apps are and aren’t permitted to do. Still, interested individuals are not helpless to protect themselves by using measures that range from keeping their phones updated to maintaining separate phones for personal and business matters.
